An architect who cannot sign her own terrace
In Bucharest I have my own small practice for twelve years. I sign the drawings, I talk with the authorities, I am responsible. This is normal life for an architect.
Last year my husband and I bought a villa on Koh Samui, in Lamai, and this year I redesigned the terrace myself, of course. Friends in my office laughed when I told them I compared the plans of maybe forty villas on https://thailand-real.estate/ before we flew to see three, and I measured the terraces before the bedrooms.
Then I learned how it works here: in Thailand I am simply a client. A Thai licensed architect signs, the local contractor builds, I only discuss. First weeks it was strange, now I find it relaxing, almost a holiday from my profession.
For members who work in regulated professions and moved abroad: did you try to get recognised in the new country, or did you keep the licence only at home and become a normal person there?
