County Wexford is in the province of Leinster and has a population of 163,527
persons (2022 Census). This represents an increase of 13,805 or 9.2% since the
previous 2016 census.
Wexford is situated in the South East of Ireland and shares its border with four other
counties and has a total land area of 2,367 km2, Wexford is the 13th largest county
of Ireland, and the 9th largest in terms of population. Wexford has a long coastline
and with the recent investment in the two motorways is closely located to the urban
centres of Dublin and Waterford which are within 90 minutes and 45 Minutes
commute distance respectively.
Wexford County Council’s estimated Revenue Budget for 2026 is €175m and the
planned Capital Investment programme for 2026 is €150m.

approximately 900 staff with 450 retired personnel.

An opportunity now exists in Wexford County Council for the position of Senior
Executive Engineer.
Job Summary/Description:
The successful candidates will be responsible for the efficient management of staff
and the work programme of the directorates/department and function to which they
are assigned. Managers at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the
position, in accordance with the Local Authority’s vision and objectives as set out in
its Corporate Plan and the role is interchangeable across directorates. Delivery of
efficient services and value for money is crucial.
The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to lead a team or teams and to
provide technical and managerial support across all local authority service areas and
to liaise with external agencies and support the democratic process.
The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to work closely with the Senior
Management Team and Elected Members to deliver the full range of services,
implement local policy decisions and deliver on strategic corporate objectives and in
accordance with the general policy direction of the elected council at both full Council
and Municipal District level. They may also be required to deputise for the Senior
Engineer.
