The mission of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) is to serve the
government and people of Ireland by leading, developing and regulating the agri-food sector,
protecting public health and optimising social, economic and environmental benefits.
The work of the Veterinary Inspectorate encompasses four primary functions, that of
inspection, operational control and certification across livestock and food production
systems, in the development of policies across the One Health One Welfare landscape, in
support of international trade and market access of Irish produce and in providing policy
advice to Ministers.
Veterinary Inspectors within the Inspectorate play a vital role in protecting public health, the
human food and animal feed chains and safeguarding the health and welfare of the national
herd.
The Department is now recruiting suitably qualified, committed individuals for the role of
Veterinary Inspector (VI) to fill a number of vacancies in various locations throughout the
