Aviva is looking for a well-rounded Risk Actuary to join the Aviva Life and Pensions Ireland (ALPI) team. This is a great opportunity to broaden experience by being a key member of a busy risk function at Aviva.

The Risk Actuary will be involved in key activities across the risk team. These will include supporting the annual Own Risk & Solvency Assessment (ORSA) process, updating the Risk Appetite Framework, representing the Risk Function of relevant governance forums.

The Life Insurance Risk Actuary is responsible for reviewing, challenging and catalysing improvements to the management/optimisation of life insurance risks within ALPI to ensure they generate value safely. In addition, the Life Insurance Risk Actuary has responsibility along with the Group insurance risk second line function for highlighting, challenging and suggesting mitigation possibilities for insurance risk.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and challenge life insurance risk profile, including, but not limited to longevity risk, mortality risk, morbidity risk, persistency risk and expense risk.

  • Review and challenge data, assumptions and modelling approach behind insurance risk, consistent with insurance risk preferences in ALPI.

  • Producing relevant second line, standardised reporting (in conjunction with other second line Risk teams) to Board/Risk Committee with a focus on life insurance risks

  • Provide risk oversight of key projects with a focus on Life Insurance risks in ALPI.

  • Technical input and support to the other second line risk teams in carrying out risk reviews.

  • Attendee of the Claim Committees, attend meetings and provide challenge on life insurance and other risk-related issues, as well as documenting the review and challenge raised both before and during the meetings.

  • With support from the team, review other governance frameworks including, but not limited to: pricing, claims management, propositions (Customer Led Proposition) and broker debt & retention frameworks.

Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified actuary or nearly qualified with substantial experience

  • Solid background in both life insurance product pricing / product development or financial management or Financial Reporting.

  • Experience of external and internal reinsurance arrangements desirable.

  • Stakeholder management experience.

  • Good knowledge of life insurance prudential and reporting regulations, e.g. Solvency II, IFRS.

  • Knowledge of the financial structure and operation of life and pensions products and in particular have a strong knowledge of the structures of unit linked, with profit and term insurance products.
